I’ve come to realize, especially over the last four or five years, that how we are judged both during our lives and after we’re gone is wrapped up in the actions we take from day to day. Just as important, I’ve learned that we are far more in control of our destiny than most of us would like to think. I once believed that our destinies as human beings were set down before we were ever born, but I’m no longer convinced of that. The older I get, the more experiences I have, the more I believe that while God may equip us with gifts and talents for certain things, it is our choice whether or not to use them either for their most obvious purpose, or whether to use them at all. It is our responsibility to have the character necessary to benefit others. Only then will we truly find our destiny.
