Be it resolved….or, not?

I am not a big fan of New Year’s Resolutions. In my opinion they’re generally a big waste of time. However, I think I’m going to set a few New Year’s Goals for 2012. It’s going to be a monumentally eventful year in my life and I feel like it’s a good time to hit the <Reset> button. Not many people get “do overs” but I think I am about to get one, and that calls for a wholesale change.

Here is my question for you:

Do I tell people my goals or keep them to myself??

There is something to be said for either option. On the one hand, if I tell people what these goals are, then I have built-in accountability. On the other, if I do not tell people, I avoid embarrassment should I not achieve them. I really cannot make up my mind. So, I am asking for your thoughts.

Go on…..tell me…..I’m waiting!

I like the accountability thing. Obviously, a goal is something you want to achieve. So, if you don’t achieve it “on time” there is no harm; no foul. We pick up, dust off and remount. So what’s the harm in letting well wishers know? They automatically become our cheering squads. We need all those positive supporters we can get. So, go ahead post your goals and get the ball rolling!

Thanks, Coach! No harm at all, I guess and it is always good to have people cherring me on. Thanks for helping confirm my original thoughts!

Definitely tell!! Not only are you now accountable but WHEN you do meet them, all your supporters have tangible proof of what you are celebrating! And I agree with Ron, goals are just that–something to strive for, not necessarily something to be bound to a specific time-table! You reach a goal WHEN YOU GET THERE, no matter the amount of time it took! And Jason, if anyone deserves a celebration for the trials and tribulations they have “thrived-through” (not just survived) it is YOU!! So. . . . “go tell it on the mountain!”

Thank you, Cynthia! I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. You are on track with what I was thinking, but I always like a little outside input!

Well, I don’t share mine. However, after reading the previous posts, I am more inclined to share them, than I was before. I, personally, don’t hold people to their “resolutions” when they share them with me – unless they specifically ask for the accountability. I may not have as many supportive friends as Ron and Cynthia (maybe they will share some of their supporters :) – even on loan? LOL).

I will share if personally asked, but not a general disclosure. Yet, I do find myself intrigued by others’ resolutions. If you choose to share, here, I will definitely take the route of the aforementioned supporters, and will celebrate & encourage in the successes!!!…. and if not so successful!!

Heh…thank, KG! I would never ask someone to share theirs. It’s sorta like divulging birthday wishes. But, I am becoming more inclined to share mine.

What a tease!! YES! Tell! We want to read it. We won’t hold you to anything. Hence, no accountability. You’re free! Free to write it all.
